How to Arrange and Prepare Your Audition for Garage Band

  1. Auditions for the Garage Band Program will be held starting one month prior to the start of classes. All new individuals and bands must audition for the program. A mandatory non-refundable fee of $35 per individual (or per band member) is required to reserve space for an audition. This fee will be applied to your tuition and fees for the Garage Band Program when paying for the course. Audition fees may be paid via credit card over the phone by dialing: [706] 641-5124. You may also pay by check at the Music Conservatory. Driving directions to the Music Conservatory may be obtained by calling the number above.

Auditions will commence approximately one month prior to the start of the Garage Band classes. Enrollment will be handled on a first-come-first-served basis, so register early to reserve your space. All auditions and classes for the Garage Band Program will be held at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Audition times are TBA. You will be contacted by a member of our staff in order arrange a day and time for your audition following your registration and payment of fees.

  2. Please read the following in preparation for your audition:

First of all, don’t freak out at the possibility of playing a live audition. Everyone survives the audition and it really is the only way for us to get a reasonable idea of what you and/or your band is all about. To audition, you should be able to play your instrument because the goal of the Garage Band Program isn't to teach how to play an instrument, but rather the skill of playing in a band. The purpose of the audition is simply for our Garage Band staff to get an idea of how best to provide you with the assistance you or your band needs to move forward.

Bring: Cable(s), pick, instrument, any pedals, sticks, etc ... We provide only a drum kit.

    For Already Formed Bands
    - Prepare one song in its entirety and perform it for us as though you were in a real rock show with banter and everything. Please note that you then register as a band, we have to audition the band and not each musician separately.

For Individuals - Each individual auditioning will receive a written evaluation from a member of our Garage Band Staff of their personal strengths and opportunities for improvement as determined through the audition. Please note, however, that we can't place you in a band until enough musicians similar to yourself have auditioned to form a band. Here’s what each of you should prepare for the audition:

Guitarists: Prepare a piece of your choice. Run over your chord knowledge. Sight-reading will be given in the tab format as well as a chord chart.

Bass Players: Prepare a piece of your choice. Run over your fret-board knowledge. Know where your notes are. Sight reading will be given in the form of a tab as well as a chord chart.

Drummers: Be prepared to show us 3 different styles of drumbeats and be ready to show your rudiments! Learn to read drum tab if you can't already!

Keyboardists: Prepare a piece of your choice - preferably something in the general vein of rock. Sight reading will be given and chord knowledge tested as well.

Singers: Prepare a piece to be performed with Karaoke back-up (no vocalists please). Note: Singers must provide their own Karaoke back-up.

  3. Fill out the Garage Band Audition Form and return it along with your audition fee by the application deadline. This information will be collected verbally from those registering over the phone. Those registering over the phone should take time to review all questions on the audition form and be prepared to provide an answer for each of the questions listed.

  4. Once you have auditioned, and have been accepted into the Program, you must then pay the balance of tuition and fees for the Garage Band Program. Tuition and fees may be paid via credit card over the phone by calling: [706] 641-5124. You may also pay by check in person at the Music Conservatory. Driving directions to the Music Conservatory may be obtained by calling the number above.
