Aspiring Rock Stars!

Are you in a rock band and looking to take that next step from jamming in your basement to something more serious? The Garage Band Program provides you with musical guidance, coaching in stage presence and our knowledgeable staff is always there to give you advice about the industry.

Not in a band, but want to be? That’s okay! The Garage Band Program has a matching service, where musicians looking to start something can audition for the Program and will be placed with individuals of roughly the same skill level and musical interests.

Garage Band Program Dates, Times & Fees – Winter/Spring Semester 2008

Course times for the Garage Band Program are arranged on an individual basis per band following acceptance into the program. All times are on Saturday afternoons. All auditions and classes will be held at the RiverCenter in downtown Columbus.

Tuition: $179, per participant, per semester (Minimum 4 participants per band)
Auditions begin: Early September 2008. Click here for more information on Garage Band applications and auditions.
Classes begin: September 27, 2008 and run through: April (Note: Class will not meet 10/11 & 11/22)
Class schedule: TBA Saturdays: 90-minutes per week (10 weeks). Bands will be contacted after their audition to arrange a regular 90-minute rehearsal time with a member of our Garage Band Staff at the RiverCenter on Saturdays for their band.

Here’s How It Works

Participants, ages 12 years and up, attend 90-minute rehearsals weekly, where our staff helps them learn new tunes and move in the right direction as a band.

The Garage Band Staff WILL help you

  • Learn your songs
  • Be professional on stage
  • Learn how to book, promote, perform, etc.

The Garage Band Staff WILL NOT

  • Tell you what songs to play (We only suggest!)
  • Teach you how to play your instrument (Note: Our private lessons program is designed for those interested in learning to play their instrument better.)

Instruments

Drums, Bass, Guitar (acoustic/electric), Singers, Keyboards, and Percussion - The ability to sing backup vocals always helps!

Styles

The Garage Band Program works with all kinds of music, from folk to heavy metal!

Skill Levels

The Program focuses on the skill of playing in a band, not on playing your instrument; hence, you must already be able to play when you enroll. If you don’t yet play well enough to be a member of a band, the CSU Music Conservatory can still serve you through our private lessons program.

Auditions

An audition is required for acceptance into the Garage Band Program. Auditions begin approximately one month prior to Garage Band Program courses (course will be scheduled as explained below). See the Garage Band Program Application for complete information on arranging an individual audition for yourself or a group audition for your band.

Rehearsal Times and Homework Expectations

Your band will be practicing once a week for 90-minutes in a 10-week session. Bands are also expected to conduct at least one practice session of similar length per week at home.
